AutoLift LA makes donating your car in Los Angeles simple: we come to you, wherever you are in Greater LA. From Echo Park, Koreatown, and Hollywood to the Valley, Inglewood, Long Beach, and Pasadena, your pickup is genuinely free. You’ll never see a towing bill or hidden fee—our charity partners cover all towing costs from the proceeds when your vehicle is sold to support services for people who are blind or visually impaired.
Here’s how it works locally: you call us or fill out our online form with your Los Angeles-area address. We confirm your details, help you pick a pickup window, and then dispatch a nearby flatbed or hook-and-chain tow truck. Running or not, parked in a driveway, garage, or street spot, we’ll work with what you’ve got. On pickup day, you simply leave the title and keys with the car (or meet the driver if you prefer). In most parts of Greater Los Angeles, a local towing partner can usually reach you within a few business days, depending on traffic, routing, and how close you are to the core metro.
How to schedule your free local pickup
1. Tell us where your car is in Greater Los Angeles
Call AutoLift LA or use our online form and share your exact location—whether you’re in Downtown LA, Santa Monica, Burbank, Torrance, or out in Palmdale or Lancaster. We’ll confirm your contact info, basic vehicle details, and where it’s parked so we can route the right local towing partner to you at no cost.
2. Choose a pickup window that fits your LA schedule
We’ll offer a pickup window based on your area and tow-truck availability. Traffic and density in places like West LA, Silver Lake, and the San Fernando Valley can affect timing, but most donors are scheduled within a few business days. We’ll confirm whether you plan to be home or prefer a contactless pickup.
3. Prepare the title, keys, and access for the driver
Before pickup day, clear personal items from the car and locate your California title. You can leave the signed title and keys in a secure spot in or on the vehicle (we’ll advise where), or hand them directly to the driver. Make sure gates are unlocked or building management knows a tow truck is coming.
4. We dispatch a local flatbed or tow truck at $0 to you
On the scheduled day, a local Los Angeles towing partner arrives with a flatbed or hook-and-chain truck. They’ll load your vehicle whether it runs or not, handle the hookup safely in tight city streets or driveways, and tow it away at absolutely no charge. Towing costs are covered by charity proceeds, never billed back.
5. Sign the release (if present) and say goodbye to the car
Some towing partners will have a quick release form for you to sign if you’re home; if not, we’ll handle documentation directly with the charity. Once your car is on the truck, your donation is underway. You’ll receive a tax receipt, typically for at least $500, and larger deductions may use IRS Form 1098-C.
6. Receive your tax receipt and confirmation of donation
After your vehicle is picked up and processed, AutoLift LA’s charity partner mails you an acknowledgment and tax receipt. Keep this with your records for tax time. You’ve cleared space, avoided selling hassles, and helped support services for people who are blind or visually impaired, all from your Los Angeles driveway.
Local pickup gotchas
Tight LA parking, alleys, and flatbed access
Tip: Many Los Angeles streets and alleys are narrow or crowded. If your car is in a carport, alley, or tight garage, tell us up front. We’ll decide whether to send a flatbed or a smaller truck and may ask you to move nearby to a more accessible curb space if possible.
Gate codes, parking garages, and HOA rules
Tip: Gated complexes in areas like Woodland Hills, Marina del Rey, and Downtown often need advance coordination. Provide any gate codes, garage entry instructions, or HOA requirements when you schedule so the driver isn’t delayed or turned away and your pickup doesn’t have to be rescheduled.
Street-sweeping, permit parking, and LA parking tickets
Tip: If your car is street-parked in neighborhoods with strict street-sweeping or permit rules, like Westlake or Miracle Mile, try to schedule pickup before the next restriction hits. Let us know about any posted hours so we can time the tow and help you avoid extra tickets while you wait.
Rural or foothill addresses outside the dense metro
Tip: If you’re in more rural or hillside areas—such as Agua Dulce, Acton, or parts of the Angeles National Forest—pickup is still free, but routing may take a bit longer. Share landmarks and road conditions when scheduling so we can send the right truck and set a realistic window.
If at-home pickup is tricky
If at-home pickup is tricky for your situation, AutoLift LA can still usually make your donation work. In some parts of Los Angeles, it may be easier to meet the tow truck at a nearby wide street, public lot, or friend’s driveway where loading is safer. If your vehicle is stuck in an underground garage, behind a non-running gate, or in a spot a tow truck can’t physically reach, we’ll talk through options—like arranging to roll it to street level, coordinating with building management, or scheduling a time when access is open.
Los Angeles pickup coverage
AutoLift LA serves the full Greater Los Angeles region—from Santa Monica, Culver City, and West Hollywood to Glendale, Pasadena, the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys, South Bay cities like Carson and Gardena, and out to Valencia, Palmdale, and Lancaster. In the dense core, pickups usually happen within a few business days; rural or mountain areas may take a bit longer. For California donations, you’ll typically sign the CA title over to the charity’s authorized agent. In most cases, you can remove and keep your license plates, then follow California DMV guidance about release of liability after your donation.
